Meet The Team
Chris Schmitt
Chris serves as a high-performance coach for extraordinary leaders and teams. After retiring from 30 years of service as a United States Army Special Forces “Green Beret,” Chris speaks about his experiences as a career special operator and how “kindness” was the most effective weapon in his kit bag. The big idea of the Azimuth Consulting Group is how the lessons learned from Special Operations in combat seamlessly translate into corporate sector leadership. That same uncertain and ambiguous environment experienced in combat has been an essential parallel experience to coach high performance behaviors for leaders at Starbucks, Google, Meta, Expedia, Redfin, PayPal, and Uber. Chris remains connected to the U.S. Special Operations Community through special projects and is passionate about supporting the Veteran Community through serving as a leader with the Seattle Chapters of Team Red, White, and Blue and Bunker Labs.
During those three decades of service in the U.S. military, Chris gained extensive experience in commanding, planning, and executing special operations missions around the world. Through facilitating the success of Partner Nation leaders, both General Officers and Government Leaders, in Afghanistan, Europe, Northwest Africa, and Canada, he learned that we excel when we all work together. His past career allowed him to serve as a mentor, trainer, and coach both in combat and uncertain environments at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels. This experience now enables diversity of thought, know-how, and inspiration to successfully coach, facilitate, and advise dynamic leaders and teams in today's volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous environment.
Chris has earned an Executive Certification for Coaching from Columbia University in New York City, a Master of Science in Organizational Development from Central Washington University, and a Bachelor of Science in International Relations from the United States Military Academy at West Point. This education and extensive leadership background make Chris uniquely qualified to executive coach, conduct cross-cultural mentoring, facilitate self-discovery, and inspire others to summit their own epic objectives!
Chris is a certified Birkman Method and Hogan Assessment facilitator and possesses a U.S. Government Top Secret clearance. He is also a certified Project Management Director and Manager by the Institute of Project Management. Regularly, Chris and his family can be found hiking, biking, skiing, and kayaking the mountains, logging roads, lakes, and rivers near their home in the Snoqualmie Valley, Washington.

Scott Morley
Scott joined Azimuth Consulting Group after retiring as a United States Army Special Forces “Green Beret” with 20 years of active duty service. Scott believes life is a team sport and, like Chris Schmitt, sees “kindness” as the most effective tool in his kit bag. With Azimuth, he conducts face-to-face and cloud-based executive coaching, facilitating, and advising with leaders and teams ranging from Fortune 500 Companies to local small businesses. Additionally, he mentors through leadership workshops and co-leads a wilderness-based leadership development trek called “The Traverse.”
During the past two decades, Scott gained extensive experience commanding, planning, executing, and advising operations around the world. Through facilitating the success of partner nation leaders, both politically appointed and uniformed flag officers, he learned that we excel when we find "common ground and work together." His career as a Green Beret allowed him to serve as a mentor, trainer, and coach both in combat and uncertain environments at the strategic, operational, and tactical levels in Iraq, Afghanistan, El Salvador, and Colombia. He excels in understanding different cultures and operating within them.
Scott earned a Master of Arts in Social-Organizational Psychology from Columbia University in New York City and a Bachelor of Science from the United States Military Academy at West Point. To increase clients’ self-awareness and emotional intelligence, Gallup certified Scott as a coach in CliftonStrengths. He holds a Top Secret clearance from the U.S. Government. Like Chris Schmitt, Azimuth’s founder, this education and extensive leadership background make Scott uniquely qualified as an executive coach and inspire others to achieve their own epic summits!
Scott likes challenges and is a sucker for good causes. You can usually find Scott and his family outdoors near their Phoenix, Arizona, home - biking, running, camping, skiing, snowboarding, and supporting local youth sports. Scott is passionate about supporting the next generation of leaders, so he volunteers as a member of the United States Military Academy at West Point (usma.edu) Admissions Field Force and also as a member of multiple congressional Service Academy nomination panels. He remains connected to the U.S. Special Operations Community through fundraising for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation (specialops.org) and has helped raise nearly $500,000 toward that end since 2010, via 70.3-mile triathlons.
